Cancer Centre London provides a modern and advanced radiotherapy service for the treatment of all common cancers.
Our dedicated and responsive radiotherapy team (consisting of Consultant Clinical Oncologists, Radiographers, Clinical Scientists and other healthcare professionals) provides a personalised and evidence-based radiotherapy service, ensuring that the highest standards of patient care are maintained throughout the course of a patient's treatment.
Radiotherapy treatments at Cancer Centre London are performed using an Elekta Versa HD linear accelerator. Cancer Centre London is the first private hospital to provide advanced radiotherapy treatment using this machine.
The Versa HD linear accelerator offers advanced radiotherapy techniques that enable high precision treatment in managing a range of cancers in the head and neck, lung, breast and prostate. It has the ability to continually reshape the radiation beam to the fine contours of the tumour so a higher dose of radiotherapy can be delivered.
In addition the Versa HD uses automated software called "Response" in conjunction with Active Breathing Control (ABC). This permits advanced 4D radiotherapy delivery, where motion management is taken into account during treatment. This technology is used when treating left-sided breast cancer and lung cancers.
ABC with Response will ensure that the Versa HD only delivers radiation treatment for left breast patients when the patient is in breath hold and the heart is fully out of the radiation field. For our lung cancer treatment, Response and ABC ensures that tumour is static and not affected by breathing during radiotherapy delivery. We therefore deliver radiation only to the tumour within the lung. The machine was designed in collaboration with clinicians, so it is fine-tuned to the patient's needs.

We also have a high-energy Siemens medical linear accelerator. This is fitted with multileaf collimator and electronic portal imager which is used to acquire MV 3D CBCTs.
The Cancer Centre London is fully networked with a multi-departmental oncology management system – Mosaiq version 2.5
The planning of a patient's treatment involves creating a three-dimensional representation of the area to be treated using a CT scanner (Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET), if indicated) and advanced virtual simulation software. These various imaging modalities allow us to target cancers with radiotherapy treatment with far greater accuracy and improved effectiveness.
Cancer Centre London's modern and high quality facilities enable the provision of both 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3DCRT), Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and IGRT (Image Guided Radiotherapy), VMAT (Volumetric Arc Radiotherapy), SRT (Stereotactic Radiotherapy), FFF (Flattening Filter Free), FFF-VMAT, SABR (Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy), and Gated Radiotherapy. Our IGRT facilities allow soft tissue matching, giving us great confidence in ensuring that the target tumour volume is covered by the treatment beam, while sparing normal surrounding tissues. All Radiotherapy patients have In-Vivo Dosimetry where the dose delivered is measured during treatment delivery.
